labor movement. Our members are on the frontline, empowering
working women to become leaders in their unions and
encouraging them to make a difference on the job and,
most importantly, in their own lives. Our values are
simple: Solidarity, involvement, dignity and justice.

Amplify the voice of women in the workforce
by strengthening CLUW, the only national organization
for union women. Both nationally and through our chapters,
CLUW has been busy lobbying the government, educating
the public and rallying our sisters and brothers in
the workforce over such issues as equal pay, Social
Security protection and the Employee Free Choice Act.
We have built partnerships with other constituency and
community groups through town hall meetings held throughout
the country. We have participated in GOTV activities.
We have rallied for a peaceful solution to the war in
Iraq. We have worked to protect women's health through
our Cervical Cancer Prevention Works project and have
educated our union brothers and sisters about the need
for contraceptive equity.
We will continue to fight for the original
goals we established back in 1974: promoting affirmative
action in the workplace; strengthening the role of women
in unions; organizing unorganized women; and increasing
the involvement of women in the political and legislative
process.

provide resources, training, and financial assistance
to women organizers. Its website
offers the latest news – updated regularly
– including tips, tactics, legal issues,
events, a multitude of resources, and effective
strategies women organizers use. Grants are available
to support organizing efforts and related activities.

of attitudes toward exercise
CLUW announces its support for member participation in the “Ethnic Specific Midlife Women’s Attitudes toward Physical Activity” (eMAPA) Study, a NIH/NINR funded internet research study being conducted by the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing on the physical activity attitudes among diverse groups of women between 40-60 years of age. In this study, each participant will be reimbursed with a gift certificate of $10 per internet survey and an additional gift certificate of $50 per online forum discussion (6 months). CLUW and Cure CVS call on CVS to keep condoms unlocked in all CVS stores in ALL communities. The stores in which CVS locks up condoms are disproportionately located in Latino communities and communities of color. The results of the online 2009 Health Care for America Survey, sponsored by the AFL-CIO and Working America, reveal deep problems that must be fixed. The AFL-CIO will share these results with Congress, the administration, the media and state and local leaders.
