The
Coalition of Labor Union Women Center for Education and Research
is a 501 (c) (3) component of CLUW that was established in
1979 to empower working women to assert their rights in the
workplace and in the labor movement.
With
women comprising 42 percent of total union membership, it
is clear that working women understand the many ways that
union clout and solidarity improve their wages, career options,
health coverage and retirement security.
It
is also clear that working womenmore than everneed
access to information and programs that address their unique
concerns.
The
CLUW Center has responded to the challenges and concerns of
working women in the global economy:
- sponsoring
educational workshops and conferences
- publishing
leaflets, brochures, newsletters and action alerts
- fighting
to put an end to sex discrimination on the job
- creating
model programs on women's health and leadership training
